The International Research Society INTERPRAEVENT is organised as shortly described below.
The Science & Technology Advisory Board advises the committees on all related specialist and scientific questions, maintains scientific contact, examines research proposals and looks after research projects. The Advisory Board’s activities are mainly focused on taking care of the disciplinary planning and discussion topics at INTERPRAEVENT congresses.
The Chair is made up of the President and the Vice-Presidents. The President of INTERPRAEVENT represents the Research Society in public, and leads the ongoing activities of the Society.
The Business Management has to handle the current business of the Society by the order of the Chair and includes the treasurer and their deputies.
The Board of Directors determines the technical and scientific orientation of the Society’s activities.
In the Members’ or General Assembly, the committees are elected and all formal resolutions passed.
Working groups are put into action whenever certain specialized areas have to be researched. A working group must be led by a member of the Research Association, while the other group members can, but do not have to, be members of the Association as well.
Statutes
The International Research Society INTERPRAEVENT is organised based on the statutes. Statutes of the International Research Society INTERPRAEVENT (formerly Research Society for Preventive Flood Control) can be downloaded via the link below.
History
In 1965 and 1966, Europe was hit by several flood disasters.
The devastating effects led to regular meetings of well-known experts in Klagenfurt in 1967, to discuss the causes of these natural occurrences, as well as preventive measures for protection and damage limitation.
As early as one year following the first meeting an association was founded, based in Klagenfurt: the “Research Association for Preventive Action against Flooding “.
This was a forum to enable experts from the scientific, technical and administrative fields to extensively analyse the causes of flooding and develop protective plans. The Association also placed great importance on encouraging applied research at universities, experimental stations and building authorities, and regularly spoke out to awaken interest and sensitize the public concerning this issue.
In 1990, the Association was renamed “The International Research Society INTERPRAEVENT”.
