In the whole Pacific Rim, sediment-related disasters are occurring frequently caused by heavy rains and typhoons influenced by the climate change, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions etc. In recent years, they are becoming more catastrophic in terms of magnitude, intensity and frequency. We now have to accelerate study for disaster risk reduction for the future and, more importantly, the results should be shared widely around the world by engineers, researchers, administrators, educators and many others who are engaged in sediment-related disaster reduction.
In these circumstances, INTERPRAEVENT 2014 will be held in November 2014 in Nara Prefecture, Japan which was seriously affected by large-scale sediment-related disasters caused by typhoon No.12 in September 2011.
